According to Dr. Riane Eisler, there are 4 cornerstones of cultural transformation. Story is a big one. The other 3 are childhood/education, gender/sexuality, and economics.
The stories we tell ourselves and our children about the way things work seems to me to be the easiest place to start unraveling these cultures that only benefit the very few. I agree with you - more people should know that human history is neither monolithic, nor written in stone.
