Because the “power” offered by the current celebration of Mother’s Day casts a shallow gaze on women themselves. It feels like when American celebrates Mother’s Day, it’s coming from this very childish perspective of the awe of and appreciation for the Mom archetype.
It’s not personal!
It’s a subjective celebration of the myth of motherhood from the perspective of those who benefit from the work done by mothers. And the commercialization of everything is just another wack symptom of “holiday” in modern America.
I’m not surprised you don’t like the holiday.
The only answer is to reclaim it.
