Being Beauty
It’s not just about the way you look.
Last night, my daughter threw a temper tantrum at bedtime. She was mad at her brother for using HER toothpaste. Clearly her big emotions were tied to the fact that we have been traveling for a few weeks, indulging in ultra-late nights, and eating too much sugar on trips to the ice cream store with grandpa.
It was all catching up with her. So she spiraled.
For a moment, I spiraled with her. It was close to 10:00 pm, and all parents know how frustrating an overwroght child who keeps pushing boundaries can be.
What does any of this have to do with beauty, Kaia?
I’m getting there. Bear with me.
After spending a few minutes tucking my son into bed, and explaining to him that the toothpaste thing was just a trigger for his sister being overstimulated and overtired, I took a few deep breaths. Then I confessed to him that his sister’s behavior was really challenging for me as a mom too.
I even told him there was a little mean part of me that wanted to just give her the “go to bed now” ultimatum and then tuck myself into bed because I was tired too.
And then…
I also told him that as a person who deeply loves both my kids, and who understands the roots of childhood…
