Bravo! While some people may find this to be overly “woke, and post-male” their resistance to your enlightened gesture here says more about their sublimated fears than it does about you making a very conscious choice NOT to participate in the traditions of domination that have dogged society for far too long. It kind of reminds me (a little) of the choice we made NOT to have our son circumcised. Just because it’s a tradition doesn’t mean it’s one we have to accept.

Thoughtful people everywhere can appreciate this. And what a way for you to enter the scope of discussion around dismantling the patriarchy!

I chose to take my husband’s last name when we married, but only because Tingley was too good to pass up. Especially when I’m a massage therapist! I certainly had the choice and my husband didn’t expect me to. In hindsight, I might have thought twice about it, but as this was my second marriage, I was actually quite happy to dispatch with my old surname anyway.

Congrats on your marriage and thank you for this beautiful little piece.
