Here’s to all the mamas and the papas who have their kids’ backs!
My daughter often confuses her b and d letters. As an adult, so do I. It’s never held me back, so I wasn’t too worried when she started repeating this pattern.
One of her classmates has a similar confusion, and when her mom discovered it (without the context I have) she got worried, and got her kid a “diagnosis” of dyslexia.
I’m not saying she’s wrong, but me and Dad are choosing to handle it a little differently.
We just told our daughter, she’s just like mama in this. And so it doesn’t mean she’s dumb. It means her brain just flips certain letters, so she’ll have to work around it.
Her friend, now thinks of herself as mildly dyslexic. Without judgment, because every parent parents differently, I’m so glad to have my kiddos back.
Good on you, mama. Keep learning!
