I believe if we’re going to survive on the planet we’re going to have to coevolve with the virome. So yes, we do need to figure out how to do that.
And we’re going to also have to learn how to take care of one another in a better way. Doubly so for the vulnerable, the infirm, the elderly, and the frightened.
If we continue to pit ourselves against one another, nothing good will come of it. I don’t care if the discussion is about COVID, abortion, guns, sexism, racism, or the climate - we HAVE to start making a more civilized place of debate if we want to exit this stupid death spiral of needing to be right, and needing to control the “other” who is wrong.
And yes, I just named a bunch of hot button topics that mostly everyone feels strongly about. Are we up for the challenge of having civilized debate about where each of us comes from, and where we collectively want to go?
So how do we move beyond the binary way of thinking here? How can your friend be right for herself, and how can you be right for yourself? And how do we get along in this kind of a paradigm?
That’s the real question in my mind.
