I fully agree that the words patriarchy, and feminism are unnecessarily triggering in their gendered implications.
This is exactly why I highly subscribe to Dr. Riane Eisler’s framework. She calls it Domination vs Partnership.
Her excellent book the Chalice and the Blade was a huge eye opener for me in terms of understanding the deep inequity in the world. If you’re interested in reframing the dialogue, it’s a wonderful read.
That said - women are not a minority.
And there are a documented myriad of ways that the systems as they are today don’t care for women.
I’m not talking about cold office buildings here. I’m talking about 2023 being the first year anatomically female crash test dummies have ever been used. I’m talking about medication studies that don’t include women - leading to adverse effects that were never studied when those meds are prescribed to women. I’m talking about the lack of women in positions of power and money in most governments and corporations, the world over.
So yes, there is a need for change. And there are a ton of reasons that women are spitting mad.
But…
Women can’t take our frustrations out on men, and expect to get good results. And men can’t continue to shout down women, using aggression and anger to invalidate what we are saying.
Men DO need to step up and do the self-reflection work that women are asking them to do - without taking it personally. That’s a fact.
It doesn’t mean we women don’t also have our own work to do. We’re just done doing it while men keep on keeping on the same broken road.
Thanks for the dialogue.
