I spent yesterday working with an herbalist in her forest garden. We used the broad fork to coax well established vetiver grasses out of the earth to harvest their aromatic roots. This is my friend Caroline telling a story about the power of this plant.

Today I brought the cuttings from the harvest to my home garden, cleared an area along the fence-line and planted them in a row. The smell is visceral and intoxicating.
