I too found a trove of Heinlein books in the cinderblocked walks of my basement storage unit. My Dad had collected the entire set in college, and they didn’t make it onto the bookshelf after moving in.

It was the summer between 6th and 7th grade for me, and I devoured all of them. 2 full boxes of books.

From Friday in the gender bending I Will Fear No Evil, to Lazarus Long and David Lamb in Time Emough for Love, along with countless others, Heinlein’s characters were so alive!

No surprise that 30ish years later I’m in an open relationship with my husband. We are raising 2 kiddos and our “openness” is actually pretty boring these days as we’re both kicking butt running the house, planting the gardens, and taking care of kids. Not a lot of time for outside playmates. But we like to imagine, and think ahead to adventures when we don’t have little ones as the focus od our routines!

Heinlein strongly influenced my ideas towards love. I never thought I wouldn’t live in a commune. In fact I now live with 9 people on a small homestead that (minus the rampant sexual escapades) could be in one of his books. It’s actually pretty natural and normal feeling.

Here’s to revolting!! Loved this article, and thanks for digging in and vfollowing my work as well.

We are the gods we’ve been waiting for - to mix a few choice metaphors! #onelove
