I’m trying really hard to understand the non-binary thing. I’m all for gender freedom, but what does that even mean?

Are non-binary folks just opting out of the gendered social system? Or are they claiming a new place within it? I’m aligned with my own personal gender, but I’m down to break the old systems and build something new. I’m just so confused as to what the objectives of this project are.
