In TCM (traditional Chinese medicine) there is this model called the 5 elements. Fire, water, wood, metal, & earth.
These elements can relate to each other in several ways.
What you’re talking about here is the generative movement of Qi (energy) through the cycle, rather than the destructive nature of stopping the qi and letting it get stuck in one element.
Anger = Fire burning Wood.
Done in a healthy way, it’s a controlled burn. The fires burn the deadwood, clearing space, nourishing soil and making room for earth + water to grow. Ew beauty.
Done improperly, fire burns the wood too hot, and too much. This devastates the land and makes it harder for healthy new growth to appear and thrive. This is especially the case if the fire is there all the time.
Too much fire (anger) will deplete the system. We call this burning out, even in our common lexicon.
But fire managed properly can be a beautiful tool in the cycle of life.
I thought you might appreciate the analogy Jessica WildFire — especially given your beautiful last name!
I’m a practitioner of 5 element shiatsu, and use this model in my work all the time.
