Kids as young as 4 can express this conditioning when questioned. Boys don’t want other boys to know they’re friends with the girls, because it gets them kicked out of the cool boys club. I read this research in Mark Greene’s book, The Little #MeToo Book for Men. It boggles my mind, but it comes from the total immersion in media and culture that starts even before the kiddos are born!

And to be clear, I VERY much agree that I’m not blaming my son, or men in general for their behavior in a vacuum. We ALL contribute to the fuckery that is the unconscious domination hierarchy. My daughter will have to learn just as much as my son.

But at least it’s happening. No one can deny that change is here. Hooray!
