IDK if it was the radical transparency, but my clients soon came to know my kids via video calls. I think they responded to the quality of my work. And to be fair (1) they experienced the work before they met the kids, and (2) freelancing is a different beastie than corporate.
All that said - I fully agree with you. We need to even the playing field. And what better time to do it than when the world is already dissolving in so many ways. What better time to attempt to rebuild things in a better way? If we all make it that is.
