Meghan Daum this post definitely recommends your book to me. As another fellow Gen X’er (bicentennial baby here) writing on this platform, I also struggle to answer the questions about where my feelings about the dysfunction of the world stem from. I’m pretty sure I’ve never really felt held back by men in any form at any point during my life or my career. So why am I pulled to ponder and write about this topic at all?
Elle Beau already put it all down in her comment below, about the difference between ‘the patriarchy’ and the problem with a domination mindset — thanks sister.
I recently wrote up a piece that attempts to dig below the anti-man diatribes that I too see nearly everywhere. Though I failed to connect the dots about women assigning power to men so they could knock them back down, which I find an interesting concept.
Maybe it’s because I waited til later to have my kids. Maybe it’s because I still struggle with the expectation that I should have to do most of the chores at the house. Maybe I’m just confused about how to achieve a work-life balance in a world gone crazy.
But was so happy to read your work and realize that I’m not the only one sitting in this place of quiet discomfort at the oversimplification of the root of our most pressing problems as a species. Thank you.
