Oh Fatim, what a mess. Makes for a great story though.

I know, and know you know now, that it's not about the hair. it's not about the prohibition on removing the hair. It's not even about the rules of society. Not really.

This is about the poisonous idea that some people are better than others, for whatever reason. And as a young girl, you got caught in the crossfire. Two groups of people, each thinking their way is best, and both sides willing to punish what you, in the middle, just wanted to try out for yourself.

My daughter is dark haired, light skinned, and covered in fine hairs all over her little beautiful body. The hair on the small of her back spirals into the shape of a galaxy. We tell her all the time how beautiful her fur is. We tell her that she is beautiful just how she is, and that if she wants to play with her beauty, she can. Because beauty is a state of mind. And we all get to control the physical aspects of these bodies we wear, at least in a perfect world.

I hope she grows up to know she will be loved, just like you.
