Oh, the rise of the voice of the Gen X woman gives me goosebumps. In a good way. Following you to follow your work. I’m very interested in your take on different relationship types.

At 43, I waited to have my kids till recently, so I’m in this weird limbo of still wiping butts and at the same time entering perimenopause. Yep, it’s as fun as it sounds, lol. I’m trying my best to enjoy it and to love on my kids while they’re still little.

But the restlessness of which you speak, oh I know her very well.

She is grounded in the inequities of domestic management and child-rearing. She is reinforced by the social-justice issues of pay gaps, career gaps, and time-value gaps. She is also aroused by the day-to-day subsumption of the woman’s soul to the encroachment of always trying to do things for others while struggling to find time for herself.

It’s the part of me that struggles to find my way through the perils of parenting when I was raised to be an out-in-the-world-powerhouse instead. Don’t get me wrong, both roles are filled with potential. But I never changed a diaper until I brought my first kiddo home from the birthing center.

Parenting and relationship have been both extremely discombobulating for me. And I happen to also have a very emotionally intelligent partner, for all that he’s 11 years my junior.

It’s past time for us to make room for ourselves in our lives. In fact — I bet you’d greatly enjoy Eve Rodsky’s book Fair Play as you research your writing.

Best luck to you and thanks for sharing your very accessible writing!
