One summer, between 7th & 8th grades I got to go to summer camp. It was a camp for brainy nerds. You had to score a 1200 on the SAT to get in. In 7th grade.
I quickly realized that everyone at the camp was going to be on my side of the social savvy spectrum, which is to say not very savvy. So I decided to run an experiment and pretend to be “popular.” In fact, I decided, I would ooze popularity and see what happened.
The whole camp fell for it. All of them. It was a super fun 4 week adventure.
I realized then that the world sees you as you see yourself. It’s a truth that’s repeated itself often, but is reinforcing itself strongly in my 40s.
We are here to root in and reconnect to the mothership. NOT to be worried about what we’re told to give AF about by our soon
-to-be-former capitalist overlords.
It is time for us to do the deep work now. If that’s what we choose.
And THIS is why I think now is the time for ALL of us to stop giving a fuck about silly nonsense; and to point our creative powers at the healing of a sickened world.
