Parchment Paper — the Unsung Hero of Your Kitchen

Let’s face it. Parchment paper is the ultimate underdog of your kitchen supplies.

It’s not flashy like your air fryer or sentimental like Grandma’s cast iron skillet. It’s never had its own infomercial. You might not even have ever heard of it — the travesty!

Even if you’ve got a roll, chances are good it just sits there neglected, while you continue to wrestle with greasy pans and stuck-on cookies. Why? Because almost no one seems to remember the magic of parchment paper.

Over the holidays, I (re-) introduced my dad to the prodigious functionality of parchment paper when used on a sheet tray inside of his deluxe toaster oven — and he was like, “Whoa! This food tastes waaaay better than what comes out of the microwave!”

It’s not his fault. He grew up in the ‘60s when microwaves were the new kid on the block. They were hip new tech, and parchment paper simply no longer had any cache. Thus began its banishment to the drawer, where only grandmothers and fancy chefs remembered its many use cases.

Way too many of us cling mindlessly to our bad habits — scraping burnt bits off baking sheets, drowning food in oil so it doesn’t stick, and pretending aluminum foil is a suitable…
