So many discussions could begin this way.
I’m pretty sure most Christians haven’t actually read the whole thing.
There was that one time I went to bible study with my Mom. The topic was how old King Saul asked David for 100 philistine foreskins to prove he was worthy enough to be given Saul’s daughter. I sat quietly, watching these conservative religious people solemnly talking about David’s purity and nodding emphatically.
I couldn’t take it anymore. I asked them what they would do with a solider who went around a battlefield cutting the foreskins off dead enemy penises. Or how they’d feel if someone showed up at their house with a bag full of soft bloody skin pieces and was there to collect your daughter.
They didn’t know what to say. I left. Remarkably my Mom and I are still close.
Anyway, yes. Read the book you profess to believe in. Please.
