For those of us who love coffee — it can be serious.

I am a homemade bulletproof coffee girl. Or at least I used to be.

Since the recipe first came to my attention about 8 years ago, I made a daily routine out of preparing it for myself and my husband in the mornings. It was the best, bar none.

  • Fresh ground organic beans with just past boiling water into the french press.
  • Add a pat (or 2) of butter, a slug of MCT oil, and a drizzle of maple syrup into the Vitamix.
  • Blend on high for a few seconds.
  • Pour into the two Yeti tumblers we use every day.
  • Top them off with a splash of low-temp-pasteurized heavy whipping cream.

So much deliciousness. And no, it didn’t taste greasy from all the fat. The blending emulsified the drink and left it like a hot coffee milkshake.

But sadly, the party was not destined to last.
