There is no trust.
People don’t trust the institutions, because they can see for themselves that the institutions are not meant to protect them.
People don’t trust news media, because its so heavily slanted.
People don’t trust politicians. Duh.
People don’t trust science. I can see that in my everyday life, not just this pandemic.
Without trust, people resort to their own ideas. And they are often powered by fear
If you want people to all wear masks, well, this break in the system of general trust has screwed the pooch.
I wear one when I am asked to. I don’t when I’m at home or outside. I don’t know for sure if they work to prevent the spread of Covid, but neither do I believe they’re dangerous. I’ve worn one longer during hot construction projects with no ill effects.
Research seems to be analyzing that the masks do work fairly well now. So I think it’s more about caring about one another and being loving than it is about trusting the authorities.
I also think that if we stressed our immune systems more often, we’d probably be more able to adapt to this virus. But that’s a hard process to play catch up for.
In the long run, we’re all asking the wrong questions. I don’t want to just be safe. I want to be fulfilled. It’s not like any of us gets out of here alive at the end anyway.
