This is great Ashley Abramson!
I made the shift to cooking more and using more local produce and locally produced meats when I read Dr. Catherine Shanahan’s excellent book Deep Nutrition: Why Your Genes Need Traditional Food.
It helped that her four pillars of nutrition jived nicely with my ecological consciousness and a desire to live both more sustainably and shop locally.
It was also full of delicious things like you’re describing here. Lots of flavorful veggies, small amounts of locally ranched meat, a generous helping of butter, and small amounts of high-fat, low temp pasteurized dairy.
Very Weston A. Price.
I didn’t know it at the time, but I was about to have 2 babies. Largely because of my diet, I had zero morning sickness, carried both kids to full term, had awesome natural births, and have two very healthy and robust kids.
I wish there was a magical diet key for patience RAISING them, but I’m working on that!
I look forward to seeing the continued shift in culture, food, and the globe at large as we continue to improve our understanding of health, the ecosystem, and our own part within it.
There is still so much to learn!
