This is powerfully accurate and spot on! Oof. The gap between self and self care for so many of us has its roots in a system that does not know how to take care of US. And it doesn’t seem to be interested in learning.
This focus we have on technology, and money and men and WINNING - it doesn’t take care of the caregivers.
It’s utterly unsustainable.
What I’ve learned about self care? Is that it’s LESS doing. And more just being. Taking little hermitish breaks from the false bs of hustle culture to literally just go sit on the earth and breathe.
Yes, life hygiene (sleep, diet, movement, connections, gratitude, etc…) is good. It makes you feel good to do it. But as you so clearly point out - WE MUST BE SUPPORTED BY THE PEOPLE, INSTITUTIONS, AND SOCIAL NORMS OF LIFE TO GET TO SELF CARE IN THE FIRST PLACE!
Rah!
