What if there is a deeper understanding that is MORE correct? I love your work Umair, even when it scares me to death. But I disagree with you here.
Hear me out.
The constitution was a document written, fundamentally, by the scions of patriarchy. White men who claimed ownership of land and people. They did a decently good job with some of it, but they enshrined a societal structure that is at the root of racist, hegemonic capitalism.
WHAT IF the whole thing needs to come crumbling down to create something that is better than the mere guise of democracy?
WHAT IF the system as it is must crumble - in the most obvious and ridiculous way - in order to make space for something that works better for more people, plants, and animals?
WHAT IF we need the insanity of laughable chaos in order to make this bigger shift happen?
I don’t disagree with you that there are a series of coups taking place right now. But I hold out some hope that in the void left in the wake of this collapse, new seeds of something better, more inclusive, and more regenerative are beginning to sprout. I think the term for this is “Doomer Optimism.”
It’s all about how you frame the collapse.
Because surely you understand that how we are proceeding in this system isn’t going to work out long term.
Maybe we NEED the collapse of the system that says the economy is more important than a livable planet. A system that managed to put DJT in a seat of power for 4 years. A system that created a court where fundamentalism is starting to run rampant.
I think this is what they call a “healing crisis.” Just ask your doctor wife lady. Bet she might resonate with this idea.
