Yes. Yes. Yes.

In my own conversation with my kids (4 & 7) I have been bringing up the topic of listening. How do we train ourselves to listen to people who might be upset, who are likely angry, who feel that they have been treated badly? How do we learn?

We’ve been practicing by listening to one another.

When my older son takes a toy my younger daughter was playing with, and she gets upset and says NO! how can you handle that well?

When my daughter mischievously whacks her older brother on the head as a joke, but she hits too hard, how can she learn to listen to her brother and stop?

None of us is going to get this right on the first try. Or the 10th. That’s why we need to PRACTICE our relational skills so much.

I’ve also found this book by Mark Greene & his wife Dr. Saliha Bava to be super helpful. It’s not about race, but it is about all interpersonal relationships.

The Relational Book for Parenting: Raising Children to Connect, Collaborate, and Innovate by Growing our Families’ Relationship Superpowers.

Keep going mama. We’ve got this!
